Welcome to Contemporary Insanity.
After nearly two decades working in the Corporate World, I decided to exit a traditional career path to live my life a different way. This blog is all about my experiences and adventures as I follow this different path to focus more on the people and passions that are most important in my life.
Many people stumble across this blog after searching for “What does Contemporary Insanity mean?” Well, that’s a big question, but I can tell you what it means to me through two different examples:
Working at a mega-corporation for a dozen years made me very unhappy. At times I felt like I was going insane just trying to live up to the Eastside’s standard of a contemporary, acceptable, ‘achiever’ lifestyle where work often seemed to focus only on impressing managers and achieving a great review score – and not on making great things or helping people learn how to use them. Living a contemporary life was making me insane.
The life I’m leading now would likely be considered insane by those who used to be my contemporaries: would most of them be content with ‘only’ being a homemaker? With going without and doing more with less? With making my ‘career investments’ in projects that help create a home oasis for my husband, who continues to work in a fast-paced, highest of high-tech companies? Without a performance review or anyone telling you ‘good job!’ for months on end? I don’t know. But I’m guessing contemporary society –in general – thinks my new choices and directions are a bit nuts.
What I can also tell you is that this season of my life is the most incredible, rewarding, fulfilling and educational time I have ever lived. I have never been happier, and I have never felt better – physically,
emotionally, and faithful-ly. So come along and find out why!
I created Contemporary Insanity to share this adventure with friends and family – and whether you are an old friend or new, please know you are welcome here.
